Audience & Skin
Color
Dane Picard
2007
The arithmetic average skin color of the viewers is projected on to
the wall in the gallery (the large color field).
The average skin color of the viewing audience is compared to the arithmetic
average skin color of the federal government (represented by the colored
square in the middle), including the House, the Senate, and the Executive
branch. This information was retrieved from the website congress.org.
The
calculated data is updated here every 10 seconds, however
data is only sent to the web every 15 minutes. This is the final result from
the exhibition which lasted from February 9, 2007 - March 26, 2007.
I programed the applet in open source software called Processing (initiated
by Ben Fry and Casey Reas, and supported by a broad community of programmers
and Artist) and installed an IEEE 1394(firewire) camera and projector
in the Space.
